Nem voltak könnyű helyzetben az Amerikai Televíziós Akadémia szavazótagjai idén sem, mert rendkívül erős mezőnyből kellett kiválasztaniuk a legjobb alakításokat, művészi teljesítményeket és a legjobb sorozatokat. Az HBO Utódlás sorozata vezette a listát 25 jelöléssel, nem sokkal utána következett a szintén HBO Fehér Lótusza, majd az Apple TV Ted Lasso sorozata, amelyek szintén szép számú jelölést gyűjtöttek be. A fő kategóriák versenye így végül nem hozott különösebben meglepő eredményt – a Legjobb Drámai Sorozat kategóriában az Utódlás, míg a vígjáték sorozatok közt a Ted Lasso győzedelmeskedett.
A 26 évesen megkerülhetetlen Hollywood-i ikonná vált Zendaya nem csak elegáns fekete ruhájával, hanem az Eufóriában (HBO) nyújtott kimagasló teljesítményével is sikert aratott a 74. Emmy-gálán. A színésznő elnyerte a legjobb női drámai alakítás főszereplői díját. Érdekesség, hogy a sorozatot a magyar operatőr, Rév Marcell forgatta, aki néhány nappal ezelőtt vehette át a technikai Emmyt kitűnő munkájáért a Creative Emmys díjátadón.
A drámai sorozatok legjobb főszereplőjének járó díját a világszerte népszerű koreai sorozat, a Nyerd meg az életed (Squid Game) főszereplője, Lee Jung-jae vihette haza.
A gálára és az utána következő after-partikra minden színész másképp készült. Lapunknak a 2022-es Emmy-nominált forgatókönyvíró és producer (The Problem with John Stewart – Apple TV) Cheslea Devantez arról számolt be, hogy bár a ruháját már hónapokkal ezelőtt kiválasztotta, a készülődésre nem sok ideje marad, mert az Emmy-re a munkából, forgatásról érkezik. A forgatókönyvíró az Apple Emmy-partiján vett részt a gála után. Az Utódlás (HBO) sztárja James Cromwell már 2013-ban elnyerte az Emmy-díjat a American Horror Story-ban nyújtott alakításáért és elmondása szerint, akkor már mindent kiélvezett az Emmy estéjén. “Biztos, hogy hazamegyek a gála után és a feleségemmel lazítunk pizsamában! MIndenki hagyjon békén!” – mondta nekünk nevetve. “Ha nyerek, ruhát fogok cserélni!” – állította határozottan az élete első Emmy-jelölését begyűjtő Sheryl Lee Ralph. Jól tette a színésznő, ha vitte a nagy estére a váltóruhát, mert a 2022-es Emmyn, díjra válthatta a jelölését a vígjátéksorozatok legjobb női mellékszereplőjének kategóriákban.
